Statement of Purpose:

To enhance elementary students study of state and local history in a rural educational environment during the turn-of-the-century.


During their visit to West Bay Common School children of all ages fully participate in an 1898 curriculum that includes:

o The 3R's taught using late 19th century textbooks by a school marm dressed in period costume.

o Spencerian penmanship using an authentic scholastic pen and ink along with individual lap slate and pencil for 'Rithmatic'.

o The highly disciplined atmosphere that was so prominent in schools of that period, along with recess fun and a lunch lesson.


o School classes for any age group of 15-64 persons available M-F September - May.

o League City Christmas Homes Tour


o Usually 9am - 12noon or 1pm - 4pm, September - May if a class is in session

o Summer hours (June - August) Tuesday & Thursday 10am - 1pm

o Since our musuem is staffed by volunteers, and classes may not be scheduled every day, it might be to your advantage to call ahead before your visit.


$2 per person in groups of 15-64 (advanced reservations)
Any age from 1st/2nd grade through adult
Drop in visitors are welcome for a short docent talk
