This area also provides for the needs of families, with a nursing room for mothers and infants as well as a Big Kids Room for older siblings while the little ones play.

ElectricSky™ Theater:

The ElectricSky™ Theater is one of the most exciting elements in the Avampato Discovery Museum’s new facility, providing an experience unlike any other in the state or region.  Programming in this space not only expands the former Sunrise Museum offerings in astronomy and space science, but adds an entirely new educational and entertainment dimension for the Avampato Discovery Museum’s audiences.  Featuring a 61-foot tilt- forward dome, the theater seats 175 and has numerous uses beyond its standard program menu including lectures, rentals, and special performances.  Core ElectricSkyprograms include:

Large Format (8/70) Film (daily)

The large format projection system enables a dynamic sensory experience.  At lease three films are shown each year.  Films explore a variety of topics and have both an entertainment and educational appeal.  Favorites among viewers nationwide are films exploring the seas and oceans, adventure films, and films that transport audiences to the far reaches of the globe. Currently showing is Journey Into Amazing Caves.

Planetarium Shows (daily)

A star-ball with the ability to present more than 10,000 stars is the centerpiece of the theater.  Additional special effects as well as sophisticated video projection systems and the use of a dazzling library of images enables us to present shows that are rich in educational content and appealing to an audience accustomed to sophisticated technology.

Laser Fantasy (Friday and Saturday evenings; Sunday matinees)

Capitalizing on the Theater’s phenomenal sound system, laser concerts last approximately one hour and provide a unique visual experience choreographed to a vast array of music.  Everything from Pink Floyd to Metallica to the Beatles to Hip-Hop to Country to the Nutcracker can be seen – numerous shows will be scheduled throughout the year and will change often.
