Statement of Purpose:

American art, with a focus on Monterey regional and California art; Asian and Pacific Rim art; graphics; photography; folk, ethnic, national and tribal arts.

The Monterey Museum of Art is housed in two separate facilities located in the heart of the historic district of Monterey.

Exhibits concentrate on the rich local artistic heritage of the Monterey Peninsula.

The permanent collection includes Early California art, photography, sculpture, Asian art and international folk art.

Artists featured in the collection include such California luminaries as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Armin Hanson and William Ritschel.

The museum includes an education center, library and Museum on Wheels outreach programs. The museum offers exhibitions, publications, educational programming, entertainment, programming for children, master art classes, and opportunities for volunteers and students.
