Statement of Purpose:

The NHS maintains the State's oldest museum and unique research library.

A visit to the Society takes you along the road of the states fabulous past-

• from the earliest native inhabitants to the white trappers and settlers;
• from comstock miners to buckaroos on the open range;
• from one-room schoolhouses to the casinos of the 20th Century.

In the Nevada Historical Society's permanent and changing galleries you can see and feel what it was like in another time and place.

Meet some of the facinating people who have made Nevada what it is:

• Dat-So-La-Lee, famous Wahoe basket maker..
• Jedediah Smith, the first American explorer to enter what is now Nevada....
• a school marm in Eureka...
• a mucker on the Comstock...
• Mark Twain...
• Mary Pickford and more.

We are located on the north side of the University of Nevada-Reno campus, just up the street from Lawlor Events Center and adjoining the Fleischmann Planetarium.
