Statement of Purpose:

As a teaching institution, the museum emphasizes the diversity of voices, media, themes, and creative impulses at work in today’s art. The NAU Art Museum believes in the centrality of artistic expression in all communities and cultures and in the incalculable value of art as an educational experience. In the Fall of 2009, the Museum will inaugurated its Arts Outreach Program, which offers in-service training to Northern Arizona school teachers in anticipation of student field trips to each of our four principal exhibitions. The Museum sustains its role as a leading cultural institution in Northern Arizona through its acquisition of challenging, contemporary art for the permanent collection.

Highlights and Collections:

Located in the historic Old Main on Northern Arizona University's North Campus, the NAU Art Museum presents art exhibitions featuring local, national and international artists. The Marguerite Hettel Weiss Collection, displayed on the building's third floor, includes painting and sculptures by noted artists such as Philip C. Curtis and Francisco Zuniga, as well as turn-of-the-twentieth-century American furniture and antiques. The main floor features four to six special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art yearly.
