To enrich the quality of life in our region by communicating the pleasure, appreciation and meaning of the visual arts through a program of exhibition, interpretation, education, and collection.
With 17,000 square-feet of exhibition space, Rockford Art Museum is one of the largest galleries in the state of Illinois. Up to 12 exhibitions of contemporary art are assembled each year by staff. Work comes from galleries, private collections, and other museums as well as from RAM's permenant collection.
RAM's collection continues to grow annually. Important works by American Impressionsit painters, historical and contemporary photographers and self-taught, African-American artists comprise important focus areas within the collection. Also featured are outstanding works by nationally and internationally known glass artists. Over 5,000 feet of gallery space is dedicated to exhibiting the permanent collection as well as providing an education area.
