The Hickory Museum of Art has a permanent collection of more than
2,000
works, including extensive collections of contemporary American
paintings, folk
art and contemporary glass sculpture.
Three primary galleries have both visiting exhibitions and
exhibitions
drawn from our own collections and change every few months. The Local Artist gallery (Gifford Gallery)
allows visitors the chance to see excellent works by North Carolina
artists. Public programs connected to
the exhibitions are held every month.
Guided group tours are available by appointment, and school
curriculum-based
activities are available.
The “Hand’s On” children’s area on the second floor allows
children a
chance to express their creativity. The
museum also hosts art classes for children of all ages and adults.
The museum also hosts children’s birthday parties for a small fee. Several themes are available, and each child
creates and takes home an art project.
The HMA Shop has a wide variety of art and art related items
available
for purchase. Items include jewelry,
fine pottery, folk art, handmade paper and much more.
Inventory is always changing, and many of the
sales benefit local artists.
Memberships are available and include a discount in the HMA Shop,
special
notices and invitations to events, our quarterly newsletter called
ArtView, and
free admission to select museums in the Southeastern U.S.
