Statement of Purpose
The Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science seeks to promote and encourage interest in mathematics for everyone, regardless of age or mathematical background.
Highlights & Collections
While the Museum is open to the public, our main attraction is our workshop programs that cater primarily to school groups, scout troops, and teacher groups. We offer eight different workshops which relate mathematics to other disciplines, in addition to our Saturday enrichment programs for students. Special programs are scheduled throughout the year.
The Math Museum is a unique learning environment. We are a hands-on museum that offers you and your family an exciting opportunity to have fun while you gain an understanding of mathematical principles. Our Museum is colorful, inviting and visually stimulating with the polyhedra (solids) that are displayed throughout the Museum, many of which were built by the Museum's founder Bernie Goudreau. The mainstay of the Museum is our collection of large wooden games and puzzles.
The Math Reference Library covers the gamut of topics from elementary to graduate level and are organized by subject area. This specialized collection at the Goudreau Museum provides a unique research experience.
Some of the books in the collection such as Mathematical Methods of Physics by Courant-Hilbert and Men of Mathematics by E.T. Bell are classics in mathematics. The collection also contains textbooks well suited for research projects at the intermediate and secondary school levels as well as for teachers. Topics can be further researched in our many mathematical journals.
