The Deming Luna Mimbres museum is one of the largest and best museums in southern New Mexico.

Mission Statement:

-To collect,conserve, research and exhibit objects of historical value
and interest pertaining to Luna County and the Southwest.
-To create a tourist attraction that will bring visitors to Luna County
from all over the country and the world.
-To educate the visitors, of all ages, who tour the museum.
-To provide programs that are both educational and entertaining to the
public.
-To provide a facility which can be used by the community for
appropriate functions.
-To establish the best museum in New Mexico.

Historical museum emphasizing local groups/events. Mimbres Indians. Railroad. Farm and ranches. Hispanic and military.

Highlights & Collections:

It tells the story of southwestern New Mexico with exhibits or a great variety, including Mimbres and Paquime pottery, mineral collection, geode collection, military room(from Indian Wars, Pancho Villa raid and Pershing punitive expedition into Mexico, WWI Camp Cody, WWII Deming Air Force Base) , an exhibit homoring the New Mexico National Guardsmen who participated in the Bataan Death March and were POWs in Japanese prison camps, cowboy exhibit, a medical room, quilt room, Hispanic heritage room, antique vehicles, art gallery, ladies wardrobe collection, antiques, etc.

Across the street is the historic Custom house where gourmet meals are served, by appointment.

An archives for Southwestern New Mexico is also available for researchers.

Exhibits:

New military room. 1853 Customs House acquired and being renovated.

Hours:

The museum is open seven days a week from 9:00 A.M to 4P.M. Monday through Friday and l:30-4:00 P.M. on Sunday. It is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Easter.

Admission & Directions:

There are no entry fees, But donations are expected and appreciated.
