Statement of Purpose
The Museum's fourteen galleries house the remarkable collection of American fine and decorative arts assembled over the past sixty years by the founder, Sewell C. Biggs.
Located in Dover, Delaware's state capital, the Biggs Museum is the only art museum in southern Delaware. The paintings span two centuries and provide a survey of major styles of American art from colonial portraiture to impressionism.
Highlights & Collections
Artists of note include members of the Peale family, Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, and Childe Hassam.
A special feature is the focus on artists from the region, such as Delaware illustrator Frank E. Schoonover.
Sculpture, needlework, drawings, and ceramics complement the exceptional display of American art.
Current Exhibits and Upcoming Special Events
The exhibition of furniture and silver highlights the work of Delaware Valley craftsmen including cabinetmakers from the Janvier family of Odessa and silversmith Bancroft Woodcock of Wilmington, Delaware.
Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Sunday 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
The Museum is closed Monday. Tuesday, and State Holidays.
Admission & Directions:
Admission is free, donations are encouraged.

From the North
Follow Route 1 South to Dover. Take exit 104.
From the South
- Follow Route 13 south for over three miles to Court Street.
- Turn right onto Court Street (continued below).
From COURT Street
- Follow Route 1/Route 113 north.
- Use exit 95 shortly alter passing the Dover Air Force Base Main Gate.
- Follow Route 113 north to Court Street.
- Follow Route 13 north to Court Street in Dover.
- Follow Court Street around Legislative Hall where it ther becomes Duke of York Street.
- The Museum is located at the intersection of Duke of York and Federal Streets.
