Opened in February of 1997, the Mineral Discovery Center's award-winning exhibit center and mine tours offer the public an opportunity to examine a modern, working, open-pit copper mine up close and discover how this versatile metal plays such an important role in everyday life.
Historic mining equipment from southeast Arizona and a growing variety of rocks and minerals from around the world.
www.mineraldiscovery.comHands-on exhibits explore a variety of copper-bearing rocks and minerals and the processes used to make pure copper metal. Other exhibits includes a "cut-away kitchen" revealing some of the common uses of copper in the home. Discovery Theater offers a large-screen video presentation on the production and uses of copper and another on the sources of common materials that go into products most of us use every day.
